Information for the service network: During ongoing product monitoring, Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. determined that due to a hardware issue, the infotainment main unit in the center console may become damaged when the driver turns off the vehicle and the main unit shuts down. Upon the next start, the damaged infotainment unit would not work. In this case, all functionalities including the rear-view camera image would not be available. In this case, the vehicle does not comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, “Rear Visibility”. Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. has decided that certain Model Year 2022 Urus vehicles fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 111, “Rear Visibility.” Our records indicate that you are the owner of a vehicle in this recall. What is the issue? The infotainment main unit in the center console may become damaged, which can cause the rear-view camera image to be inoperative. An inoperative camera image reduces the driver’s rear visibility, increasing the risk of a crash. For all the reasons set forth above, it is therefore necessary to repair these vehicles. If you are not the only driver of this vehicle, please advise all other drivers and passengers of this important information. What Do You Need to Do? You can still drive your car, however, please contact your preferred authorized Lamborghini dealer immediately to schedule an appointment to have this important repair performed, free of charge. INTERNAL Recall Campaign: Infotainment Main Unit Replacement on Lamborghini Urus MY 2022 S. Agata Bolognese, Italy, December 16th, 2022 Dear valued Lamborghini Sales and Service Manager, In the course of continuous product monitoring and internal tests, Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. has determined that a non-compliance defect that relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2022 Urus vehicles. It has been determined that due to a hardware issue, the infotainment main unit in the center console may become damaged when the driver turns off the vehicle and the main unit shuts down. Upon the next start, the damaged infotainment unit would not work. In this case, all functionalities including the rear-view camera image would not be available. In this case, the vehicle does not comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, “Rear Visibility.”. For the reasons listed above, Automobili Lamborghini decided to launch a non-compliance recall campaign in Unites States and Canada to rework the involved cars. The repair instructions are now available on the DMS section “Service and Recall Campaigns” as well as on LIASS. Description of the Cause : Under certain conditions during shutdown of the infotainment main unit, an error in one of the voltage regulators may lead to damage to various components within the control unit causing a loss of all functions including the screen display. In this case, the infotainment main unit is damaged permanently and needs to be replaced. Identification of Any Warning that can Occur : Upon start-up, the driver will notice that the infotainment screen in the center console is not working and not displaying an image which should prompt the driver to pay extra attention for objects behind the vehicle when reversing. An investigation started immediately to determine the possible involvement and to analyze field cases. August – September 2022, results from the investigation revealed that a batch of possible involved components were delivered to Lamborghini and tracked within the production systems. Additionally, the issue was also identified on 3 field cases that further confirmed the failure modality and involvement. September 2022, compliance with regulations in the affected markets was evaluated and discussed between the involved brands of Volkswagen Group. The assessment considered the failure mode and the requirements of FMVSS 111 – Rear Visibility, which requires the display of a “field of view” of certain objects behind the vehicle upon the initiation of a backing event. On October 19, 2022 the Lamborghini Product Safety Committee makes the determination of a non-compliance Part 573 Safety Recall Report 22V-804 Page 3 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 for the US and Canada markets and decides a non-compliance recall. Lamborghini has not received any reports of a crash or injury due to this topic. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : Affected vehicles will receive a new infotainment main unit at no cost to customers. Lamborghini will not offer a reimbursement plan under this recall as all affected vehicles are still under warranty. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The part numbers for the remedy and the recalled components are the same. The remedy infotainment main units have been produced outside of the suspect manufacturing period at the supplier.
